Lead Project Engineer, DPW *ZR

Job Description:

Provides professional, highly technical work, in planning, developing, designing, budgeting, managing, inspecting, and executing various projects within the DPW. Projects could involve any aspect of DPW functions, including horizontal (water, sewer, roads, recreational areas, etc.), vertical (buildings and structures), marine infrastructure, and solid waste management. As a primary technical resource for the engineering staff, the Lead Project Engineer will be required to oversee and mentor junior engineering staff members, and be responsible for technical Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) of DPW designs (whether designed by staff or consultants). Will be required to design, develop, and potentially stamp, engineering drawings and specifications. Perform all other related work as required

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required; ten (10) years of experience in engineering design and construction; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Class D drivers license required.

Massachusetts Professional Engineer certificate.

Additional Qualifications:

Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, the design standards, methods, techniques, materials and equipment involved with the maintenance, repair and construction of DPW related projects (roads, water, sewer, etc.). Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D AutoCAD. Working knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to the design, construction, and repair of DPW infrastructure. Working knowledge of state and local procurement regulations and policies. Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations and policies. Knowledge of engineering related computer application programs.

Proven ability to design/prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates and contract documents for large-scale complex construction projects. Ability to write and communicate effectively, prepare reports and maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently, respond to difficult and sensitive public inquiries and maintain tactfulness and courtesy in high stress situations. Ability to maintain accurate records, operate a computer, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment.

Highly skilled in the use of computers including CAD, word processing, spreadsheets, database, and engineering, drafting and design software. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups.
