Job Description:
Provides professional technical and administrative work in the Engineering Section, inspecting construction projects and ensuring compliance with contract drawings, specifications, local and state regulations, and rulings of local commissions and boards. Construction projects could be for any aspect of DPW functions, including horizontal (water, sewer, roads, recreational areas, etc.), vertical (buildings and structures), marine infrastructure, and solid waste management. Oversees the issuance of sewer and road opening permits, and all other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree with courses in engineering, mathematics, surveying, materials and design; or more than three years experience in municipal level construction inspection and/or surveying; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering is preferred. Class D drivers license required.
Additional Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of construction materials and modern methods of general construction. Knowledge of codes, bylaws and other applicable regulations as they pertain to construction. Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, the methods, techniques, materials and equipment involved with the construction of DPW related projects (roads, water, sewer, etc.). Knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to construction, and repair of DPW infrastructure. Some knowledge of state and local procurement regulations and policies.
Ability to interpret and understand all aspects of construction projects. Ability to make detailed notes and sketches of construction for permanent records. Ability to write and communicate effectively, prepare reports and maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently, respond to difficult and sensitive public inquiries and maintain tactfulness and courtesy in high stress situations. Ability to operate a computer, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment.
Proficiency in the use of basic survey and measuring equipment and computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups.
$2,483.17 biweekly + benefits
